Flying start Audit Associate
We would be booked onto clients for periods of a week or longer to assist with any audit work/testing. This could be in the planning phase, testing phase or completion phase. We would communicate with the team and client daily regarding testing approaches and updates.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Its brilliant, its a really quick and efficient way to qualify as a chartered accountant at a young age but it is very intense and demanding both mentally and academically. Its exhausting but the pro's/rewards are just as tasteful. I recommend my programme to anyone wanting to qualify.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, my professional and technical skills have advances. Especially technical IT skills, more specifically Excel skills as we use Excel for most our workpapers so I have adopted to new shortcuts and more efficient ways of doing things by both seniors and also client exposure. Time management skills by default have improved for a better work life balance.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well organised and structured. The exams and university times along with the placement periods are super well throughout out according to which exams need to be cleared before going back onto the following placements as each placement is a step up in position and therefore responsibility and expectations too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receive support intenally by PwC through career coaches, mentors, flying start champs, team members and any senior colleagues you reach out too. Everyone is super willing to help and coach/guide people through things when askes, you just have to seek the assistance. We also have our uni tutors we can reach out too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lots in so many different forms. We have catch ups, beginning mid and end of placement with our career coaches. We have catch ups with the flying start uni contacts. Catch ups with flying start mentors. Feedback and constant communication with seniors on your job. Can always reach out to your Pwc buddy.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The audit and Assurance exam in particular is super useful in working within the Audit service as it means you have the core basic background knowledge. You know the process per theory and therefore reasons and rationale for different testing approaches for differing scenarios and also the rules and standards we have to comply by.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, lots of socials are available. We have had flying start socials at the beginning of the placement to bring all the flying starts together, bit like a community. Theres the quarterly meeting which is always followed by a social. We are also in different social groups and there is a social leadership team.

Why?
The firm itself is extremely supporting and understanding, the place a real important and emphasis on their workers well-being and happiness. They offer extensive support and opportunities. There is so much scope to progress and explore different roles within the firm even. Endless opportunities globally, secondments are a great option for those wanting to travel with work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Work hard to get your place and be prepared to work even harder once you get it. It is intense, it can be fast paced and it's not for the faint hearted. You will be constantly thrown in the deep end and pushed in high pressure conditions on a day to day.
