Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
At the start of any apprenticeship with cummins, you do a trail week with each department and then theres a 2 way choice of which department you work in. I got placed in blockline quality meaning i was carrying out dispositions to defected blocks. Day to day work is different depending where you work
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have mostly enjoyed my time here at cummins due to many different reasons. When i first joined i was a little nervous thinking i wouldnt fit in but it beat my expectations by miles due to the work you are doing and mostly down to the team you are working with, i havent come across someone who i havent liked

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
With cummins i feel you get as much as you put in by this i mean if you work hard, you will be rewarded with skills/qualification. i came in completely new to engineering and managed to complete a level 2 easy. Cummins also offers in house training so you can further skills such as health and safety

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Cummins are very organised from the start, ensuring you have an introduction to company policies and health and safety. They never put you under too much work load but at the same time they want to push you. I do feel there was a slight bit of organisation from the collage.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Cummins support you 100% and make you feel welcome. first level of support is your manager and in the past my manager is the first person ive spoke to. HR are always there to sit down and have a chat to you about any worries you might have. There is then college mentors who have done an apprenticeship in the past, these will always sit down and help where they can
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
College will give you 100% support when working towards a qualification. The tutors sometimes give you extra time on the subjects you might need extra support and then theres the learning base manager who is fantastic for cummins, she will jump over walls backwards to help you out with whatever your issue. She sometimes takes time out of her day to go over work you are unsure of
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
i would say the main thing college shown me through out my qualification is engineering drawings. they shown me how to ready them which i use most days at work, they also shown me what a lot of the symbols mean on the drawings and i have started showing other people in the work place what these mean
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
1 thing cummins do is we have a day a year where we go out an help the public such as helping old people on a allotment or having a dinner with OAP's which is always a good laugh. there is then games of football that happen each week.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
Why?
its a great place for a young person looking to take there first steps into engineering without a silly low wage. The support you get while you do your qualification and pushing you to go further with education, wanting you to get as much as possible out of the apprenticeship
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
i would say the biggest tip or advice for someone applying to cummins is to do your research, theres loads of facts and information about cummins which you could use in your interview to wow your potential employer. then if you get the job, a big bit of advice i would say is to always tell the truth even if you might get in trouble
