Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Preparing year end accounts for a variety of clients, which means checking their records agree to the trial balance they have given us and posting these balances in our own system. We then prepare and review the financial statements along with all the accounting policies and disclosures to make sure these are appropriate and compliant.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It is a challenging and stimulating environment which makes it enjoyable, and it is great being part of a supportive and fun team. The day to day activities become more varied as you continue to progress and therefore the programme becomes more interesting as your experiences become more diversified and interesting.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes - being part of a team in a professional environment has helped me develop my communication skills, both written skills when composing emails to people who are more senior than myself, as well as when speaking to others in the office, or when writing to clients to ensure I have the right tone in each situation.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised by RSM, who support us and provide time within working hours to attend some college courses - this makes the study aspect more achievable. There is also a rich selection of training to help provide on the job training which is well organised and effective at delivering its objectives.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive - I was allocated a work buddy who was able to guide me answer all of my initial questions when I started. I am also able to contact those in the team for support and assistance and the culture is very much based around helping each other.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The tutors who deliver the training from my training provider are very helpful and provide good support, and the learning materials provided by the college are excellent. Written communication however, via emails, can be very slow and at times ineffective, meaning it is not always easy to resolve queries. However overall good support is provided.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role because it is completely relevant to my everyday job role - on some modules I am able to apply what I have learnt immediately, and even when it is less relevant to my personal role, and gives me a better general picture.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a number of extra curricular activities to get in at work for those who would like to. This includes charitable activities (particularly now we are given a day per year to volunteer), fundraisers, and with restrictions lifting up again, a few professional networking events as well. Social activities are also organised very regularly.

Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The training is very good, the atmosphere is a nice one to work in, the team is supportive and there is a clear progression route - RSM is invested in helping you to progress if this is what you want to do and will give you lots of opportunities. You even try secondments.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
I would suggest to prepare well for the interview - you are given a wtitten task to prepare beforehand in order to present to the interview, so it is important to be prepared to deliver this confidently. Also research RSM, what they do and what you will be doing to ensure you can talk about this.
