Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a footwear production apprentice we learn the process of footwear making from start to finish. Our time is rotated between the 4 areas of the Dr Martens factory, where we learn the process and skills needed to make Dr Martens footwear.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy learning new skills and pushing myself to try something new everyday. Shoe making was a big change for me but one that I've thoroughly enjoyed, allowing me to be hands on and push myself physically.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt the process of shoe making from start to finish. This includes the process of tanning leather, the sewing skills required to make the uppers and a whole load of new skills in the lasting room where the shoes are made. I've learnt how to operate and maintain machinery as well as how to identify flaws in the leather and keep a high quality standard during the lasting process.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship has been well organised with a good balance of work and college. We're able to apply the skills learnt at college to our work in the factory and visa versa
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A good amount of support from both employer and college tutor. Our employer makes sure we receive a good amount of training in order to develop our skills for the apprenticeship whilst also ensuring we're playing a vital role in the work team
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Again a good amount of support to make sure we're on track
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I've learnt a lot of new skills during the apprenticeship that I wouldn't know otherwise. These have helped me in various ways with my daily work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There's always opportunity to expand/develop skills etc
