Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Current commercial placement consists of Raising sales orders, Chasing up estimates, Raising Contract acceptance forms, doing pricing sheets, liasing with customers via webex or email.
My previous Risk Placement consisted of me having to learn how risks are identified, assessed, evaluated and monitored. I would update risk registers and worked on improving the way in which the language of risk is used by PM's can be improved.
My planning placement enabled me to understand that time costs money especially within project mnagement, and so i was able to understand how time had to be managed accordingly on a project to reduce any unforseen rising costs.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I quite enjoy my programme, i am in a free environment where i am able to work at my own pace and ask questions any time i need help. I am always learning something new everyday and trying to implement that knowledge in my working environment. Overall so far the apprenticeship has been very exciting.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt the importance of planning, and risk management within a business. My communication skills have grown since i've started at Leonardo. My skills in excel have developed immensely with the help of free online courses on Coursera. University has enabled me to apply my learning to the job, with areas such as scheduling, creating a Project management Plan, and even understanding the working culture of my company.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structred so that i can go through all the different areas/functions within the business and gain an understanding of each of those areas as they will later come together for the final goal of Project management.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive, there are monthly catchups to see how i am getting on within the apprenticeship as well as if i've had any worries or concerns over my performance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider is very supportive, all lecturers are available to contact via email with in questions that i may need answering.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification with the Training provider has so far given me an insight into how i can apply the theory to the practical areas of my job roles. I have been able to do this with the Project management Plan training that i did in university which gave me a better understanding of the structure of the plan and the importance of business justification, and this was something i was able to apply to a project that i hepled out with.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra cirrcular activities, apprentices are always given opportunities to volunteer at STEM events, set up charity events, liase different with schools and host competitions. As well and events that celebrate diversity and inclusion such as a most recent event called AFBE which was held in London.

Why?
i belive Leonardo will really help me develope some core skills and knowledge that i can implement greatley in the future. It allows exploration of different areas, and is a friendly environment to work in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
I would recommend that anyone applying to Leonardo, should definetley have a go at the opportunity to apply, and during the interview process just be yourself, smile, and also make sure the people who are interviewing you are enagegd in whatever aspect of yourself you are presenting to them.
Another important tip is to ask questions during the interview stage, so that you know what you are setting yourself up for and the type of people that you could potentially be working with in the future. Also this shows how interested you are about the position.
