Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

on a day to day basis I have various roles such as performing our daily tasks which are delegated through the team rota. On top of the daily tasks we perform I also do things such as covering our queries mailboxes and also processing exceptions at price points throughout the day.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

yes I enjoy my program a lot, it challenges me every day and there are always new things to learn and new responsibilities to take on in order to improve myself and the skills I possess. this results in me being very focused as there is no point where I am ever bored.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

whilst working at HSBC during my apprenticeship I have developed many crucial skills such as timekeeping, the ability to work by myself and with a team and also how to multi task. I have also learned many new skills to do with finance as I have never previously worked in a role similar to this before.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

yes my program is very well structured as I have my time daily to complete my apprenticeship units whilst also having my time to complete and learn new daily tasks in order to improve myself and help my team out. if there are any issues I feel comfortable in making this clear to my manager.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

yes I receive lots of support from my employer as if there are ever any issues I have with anything I feel comfortable in talking to my manager about out and comfortable that it will be resolved quickly. there are also regular one to one meetings with management where I can discuss all of my thoughts.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

yes I receive a good amount of support from my training provider as they are very easy to contact through email and always reply quickly if I have any issues with the current unit I am trying to complete. this is good as it reduces the chance of me getting stressed and helps me focus.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

my qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it is constantly asking me questions which make me explain what I do and why I do it, this helps me to reinforce the knowledge that I already have and helps me to remember what my goals are whilst working for HSBC.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

yes there are these kind of activities at my work, however due to covid these have been slightly more difficult to organise. for example, our Christmas night out had to be changed to a Christmas zoom call where everyone ordered food for themselves and talked for a few hours as a team.

I would definitely recommend HSBC to a friend as they are a very good company to work for, this is because they treat their employees very well and it is a fun and exciting place to work as there is always things going on and new skills to learn and improve yourself.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?

the tips I would give someone that was applying for HSBC would be to apply as quickly as possible as the quicker you start the quicker you can get started with working here. where you can improve yourself, meet new people, work in an exciting team and learn lots of new skills.
