Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves training new recruits to the Wealth part of the bank as well as ongoing development for staff already in that department. My role day to day can vary from delivery of training, planning or design of training. Delivery of training, could include both face to face and over Zoom.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the practical element of the process the most. My learning style is active and doing so the practical element has helped me the most with my development. The mixture of theory, practical and the virtual classes has been a good mix but I would prefer more practical study.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During the apprenticeship I would say that I've learnt a combination of new skills and development of existing skills. The initial phase of the apprenticeship involved a lot of theory which I took away from but it wasn't until the practical elements where I felt i could demonstrate how these learns had imbedded.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say the course is relatively organized, there were a couple of issues at the very start with how the course was structured and in particular the understanding of this but once it was outlined to me I felt comfortable and assured with what, when and how I needed to do something.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
HSBC has been great with support. My dept has several people on the apprenticeship and is very mindful when it comes to support, time and resources to ensure that I feel comfortable. My own line manager has been great for support and in particular making sure that the 20% of my week is available to my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Babington have been OK, I've changed my skills coach now a couple fo times. I dont feel the support from them with their coaches has been great and where I need support I've reached out within my own company. I do understand though that they can only do so much .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I'm not sure at this stage how it has helped. My aim and goal joining the apprenticeship was to purely be a better coach, the qualification was very much a bonus. I don't believe I will fully understand how it has enabled me to perform better in role until after the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
HSBC is really good with extra activities that I could get involved in. The only issues is being able to fit those types of events in between job and the apprenticeship. Time is very difficult to find at certain points in the year due to workloads and recruitment within the bank.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great place to work, look after their staff, great benefits and the opportunities are vast. A great example of this is the opportunity to develop in role and outside of role. Having worked for other banks I'm very happy with my future prospects with the bank and would recommend them as an employer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
Look beyond just what job your looking at, the bank has a huge and vast range of areas that people can move within and will always provide support if someone wasn't to move into an area. Look for the opportunities to develop yourself and improve yourself both in and out of work.
