Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The placement was online due to the pandemic. Each day students were assigned to a different department where we had an introductory talk and chance to ask questions. We then completed a task for each department and were given feedback. There were networking events with colleagues from across the business; NQs, trainees, diversity groups. There were some social sessions also.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The week long placement allowed participants to see many different areas of the business and speak to those who are in charge of IM's future direction. We got a good view of what it would really be like to work for IM and how we would fit into the business.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was everything I expected it to be from the research I had done into the company and I feel they do live up to their values. Everyone I met went out of their way to offer help and guidance and were happy for any students to email them if they had queries about their journey into law or their specific department.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I very much enjoyed the placement and would certainly do it again. Things were different due to the placement being online but everyone I met was friendly and approachable and I would be happy to work with on a longer term basis. The week exceeded my expectations and I got more from it than I thought I would with it being online.

Someone applying should spend time thinking about what they can bring to IM; what skills and experiences do they have that will enable them to be a good fit for the business? Consider why IM stands out to you over other firms and discuss those reasons in applications and interviews. Do your research!!
