Vacation Scheme Participant Review

Given a broad overview of the firm's practice areas by learning about a different practice area each day. We initially spoke to a solicitor who gave an overview of the work they do in that area, this was followed by time for questions. We were then set a task to complete by the end of the day.
Throughout the day we also attended talks from other departments within the firm e.g. diversity initiatives.

The firm were very thorough in updating us on the new business structure and how this will impact of roles at the firm. They also gave us information on how a training contract would operate and what it would entail.

I further developed my research skills when completing the tasks as this involved using databases such as Lexis and Westlaw. Furthermore, I was able to improve my time-management skills as tasks had to be completed within a tight timeframe.
Beyond this I built upon my communication skills by talking with solicitors, fellow candidates and my assessors in my interview and in-tray task.

Despite attending the vacation scheme virtually, I was able to gain an invaluable insight into the firm's culture through speaking to those at the firm who confirmed the inclusiveness and personable nature of the firm. Everyone I spoke to spoke very highly of the firm. Even with the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the employee's welfare was paramount.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the firm as it further affirmed my desire to work there and develop my career with such an innovative and inclusive firm. I was also able to meet with fellow candidates (whom are now my future colleagues) and build meaningful relationships with them in preparation for starting my career at the firm.
