Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I run shifts, manage people, write floor plans. Along side this I also ensure my crew are happy and my customers get good service and hot food. I also deal with cash and safe management to ensure no money goes missing as I am in charge of this. At the heart of my job role is to ensure my customers leave happy and satisfied
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I loved doing it but when I started it, it was pre pandemic so all my time was allocated within a shift so I was paid. After the restrictions eased, I then ended up with 3 different tutors and all the calls were done in my own time so I struggled to work it around my life sometimes. Other than that it was great though
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt more about the discipline process within the hospitality sector, as well as how to correctly manage certain people using different leadership styles. It also helped to manage my time better as I had to find time to do it on a regular basis. I learnt more in depth about food cost as well

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe it was very well organised,especially once I'd got my last tutor for the final 9 months, she organised time well, was very understanding and was extremely helpful. The only downside was I couldn't always find the correct references to work from so maybe that should be a bit easier to find
How much support do you receive from your employer?

In my original store, not much due to having no Business manager and then a poor business manager. Once at my current store, I received the correct allocated time and found it alot easier to ensure I got my work completed by the set deadlines. The only thing I didn't receive was pay for my apprenticeship meetings but I suppose that is classed as the work from home part
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My first 3 tutors weren't very helpful at all but my last one was excellent and extremely helpful. She even gave me her phone number to ensure I could contact her whenever I needed to. It was extremely difficult to get hold of lifetime other than my tutor though. They never responded to emails or put me on hold on the phone
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel I could have learnt alot more job specific stuff. When my apprenticeship started, it was just a general manager in hospitality one so wasn't specific. 4 months in (after a lot of work had been completed too) it changed to a McDonald's one which was slightly more specific
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are crew events at Christmas, and there is the McDonald's football teams but I unfortunately don't play football. I sometimes attended the crew events at Christmas and other times of the year but rarely due to me not having a great relationship with certain colleagues. We don't have many social activities due to being open 24 hours a day

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
No
Why?
I haven't had the greatest experience within the hospitality sector recently. It has majorly gone down hill. Many crew and managers are lazy and the ones who aren't get the brunt of the work so they end up leaving for other jobs. Managers all tend to have a superiority complex
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
Ensure you are over the age of 16 and have also sat your GCSEs. Also speak to people who have previously worked within that store and figure out the dynamics. Try and find a friendly face on your first day as it can be very clicky. And don't be shy or you will struggle with your job role
