2.8/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I support the production of electronics, working with both the design and manufacturing teams to ensure production is as smooth as possible, while also maintaining quality. My day is usually split 50/50 between meetings/calls arranging tasks and then the other half testing/debugging problems.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme as a whole, the team I work with are supporting and the experience I've gained is great for such a short space of time from my point of view.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've grown a massive amount in this role, it is a tough job to keep up with the workload but I feel like as an engineer I've improved on many aspects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There are improvements to be made within this programme, I think that the years following mine have had a much better managed programme due to the initial issues integrating this new course into the company.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is always there when needed from the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Support from the university could be improved, there is a common lack of clear communication from them which really impacts our ability to complete the course smoothly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I'd say that it helps to support my role, rather than directly influencing how I perform. Having the background knowledge as to why decisions are made in a certain way is useful when making decisions within the business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I've been involved in STEM events and careers fairs over the years. Had the opportunity to meet and talk to some VIPs as well, which has given me the chance to explain what a Graduate Level apprenticeship is to spread awareness of these schemes.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Leonardo to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like there are plenty areas within the business which can allow someone to do almost any role they want, with the right experience obviously. The job security is also a large factor, even throughout the struggles of a pandemic the business kept everyone fully employed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
Be willing to show that you can work well in a team. This is probably one of the biggest factors within Leonardo, everyone is part of a wider team.
