Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A typical day at work for me in my current placement consist of inspecting PCB for faults/damage/manufacturing issues, fault finding and investigation work, researching & trailing new materials/components. I have been given some responsibility as I am in charge of looking after specific tasks in the department for example, maintaining the chemicals to clean the PCBs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed the programme I am on as I have been able to learn a lot about the different departments and understand clearly how an aircraft operates with our products and the specific role they have. I get 4-6month placements in different departments to gain experience in each area and be widely versatile to the company as I am able to gain a better understanding of the company and support the different groups.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have been able to enhance myself as a person by being provided opportunities within the company to better myself. A lot of new skills I have learnt I have been able to pick up when moving across to different departments and learn the skills and techniques used. essentially you get out what you put in.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured as I understand what I am to achieve throughout the year with set objectives. I have a strong apprentice team that guides me through the course on the next stages. I am given within work hours to complete my coursework. The first year was not well structured as the company was unable to plan and provide us work for when we was onsite and the college/training provider MAKEuk was not good with providing education.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I get a lot of support from my employer as they have invested money into myself. I receive monthly review meeting that cover my progress, any issues and concerns. My employer is always finding ways to help me improve myself and provide me with the best opportunities and support me in anyway.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of help from my training provider as they help you through the process and try guide you in the best way possible to get high grades/pass the apprenticeship. I have been able to get support at any time I require and get a quick response. However, during my first year I received very little support even if I did not understand the task fully.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have been able to identify/be aware of specific things that are going within the business that I wasn't aware of before. I have been able to put some of the theory I have learnt into practice in the roles I have completed. I would like my company to put me forward for further education.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are some. A few which are apprentice only however, they are mainly located in Derby as out main hub is there. There are some which are local but not as known to everyone and you may find out through asking someone. eg. after work football 7 aside. I would like there there to be more opportunities to go out for social events as a team or small group.

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a brilliant place to work, the area is nice with exercise facility, a range of food vans/stores. The atmosphere within the company is good, the people are very friendly and easy to talk to. The company offer good support and programs for grad schemes, apprenticeships, Level 3/degrees.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Make the most of everything and take all the opportunities that come your way. Be okay with making mistakes and learn from them. Don't be afraid that you will know less or won't understand everything. Take time out to speak with other people and try understand the business better.
