Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Machining and finishing parts
Setting machines
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy work, but the program was not planned out and apprentices were not looked after well in my opinion. This is not the fault of anyone in particular it is just always busy on the shop floor and there wasn't always someone there to guide apprentices.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Machine operations
Engineering knowledge
Hands on bench work
Communication skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
In my experience, it was not well organised. Training given when working in an area is second to none but apprentices were left on the same areas for months without progressing
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support during the pandemic and when furloughed was there, but I do not feel like apprentices are supported that well by the company when at work, it feels like they are used more for cheap production than training.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
You get an assessor that marks your work and has regular reviews to review your progress on qualification work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification doesn't help me in my role as nothing we did at the training provider matches the level of work we do at my company, and none of the machinery is the same.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I am not aware of any

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a pleasant place to work and everyone gets along and knows each other. I would not recommend the apprenticeship scheme due to its un-needed length and lack of support, but it is a great place to work when you are finished with training.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Make sure to write down everything you learn during your training, and always keep on top of the person who is supposed to be in charge of your training and do not let the company use you for cheap production.
