Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Kitchen Team Leader, requires that I ensure food leaves the kitchen according to company specifications and brand standards - efficiently, to temperature, safely, etc. Usually requires coordinating a team within the kitchen and communicating with front of house staff properly. Can involve some degree of handling customers too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed it greatly. My Lifetime Trainer has been very supportive and helpful. He has been flexible when it comes to my rota too. And he has pushed me to do the best that I can.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
General food hygiene safety knowledge has been increased.
I have learned about legislation within my industry, cooking methods with which I had not previously been acquainted, and how to delegate tasks well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Quite well structured. Its structure is not immediately clear when you start the course but once explained it becomes easy to follow.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My Kitchen Manager has been supportive but there doesn't seem to be a huge degree of involvement from my employer with my apprenticeship. I think that is mostly because not many people do this apprenticeship, so they are a little bit unfamiliar with it. It's not due to malicious intent.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A lot of support, as previously outlined in a prior question.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think that it offers a lot of practical and theoretical knowledge to be learned, so I would definitely say it helps me perform better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Some, but most are organised spontaneously/unofficially by members of staff.

Would you recommend JD Wetherspoon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If you want to work for a competitive, fast pace, but extremely rewarding environment, then JDW is for you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JD Wetherspoon?
Be honest in your interview. Almost anyone can learn the skills required to become a good worker. But you have to want to become one yourself first. So come in with that attitude.
