Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On the daily I provide the McDonald’s gold standard quality service for customers and delivery customers. I provide training for new starters and ensure the shifts run smoothly and everything is clean and tidy to meet HSE standards and McDonald’s policies and procedures.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really pleased with how my program went and would tell others to do the program to gain the experience and knowledge if they wish to excel in their career. The trainers and mentors were very helpful when I found myself stuck or struggled to understand something.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since completing the apprenticeship I have a greater understanding of the importance of legislations and how a customers experience is affected by behaviours and procedures as well as body language, what it takes to run a business and how to go the extra mile for customers.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure and organisation of the programme went beyond my expectations and I would look forward to my sessions every day. The way I was taught was very helpful and flowed easily with the last topic and the next topic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

McDonald’s offers a wide range of support for its staff such as help with mental health through the “Employee Assistance Programme”. If you find yourself struggling you can speak to the managers on shift and the Business for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I was able to call my training provider for help outside of sessions and was given a space in my store to work on my apprenticeship. Regular check ups on how i was getting on guided to achieve my final result.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The skills and knowledge I learned has helped me go for Crew Trainer. I can share my knowledge with new starters and experienced staff. I have a greater understanding of following procedures correctly and the importance of these procedures and policies.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have a football team to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities and constant fund raising to help the charities and raise money to support families. This is very close to my heart and always get involved as best as I can.

Why?
McDonalds is a great way to kickstart a career in the catering and hospitality sector. It offers various roles from crew member to working in a franchise head office working close with restaurants to ensure they are meeting high standards and beyond. I highly recommend looking into it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
While applying for McDonald’s don’t think it’s a bad job as that’s the stereotype. You will find it’s a great working environment and you meet new people everyday. Face the interview with a keen interest and show your determination!
