Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Key handler who opens up and closes the pub. Cash control trained so as to allow for counting cash at start and end of the day. Customer serving with both food and drink. Making sure standards of cleanliness is kept to a high quality. Dealing with complaints and excepting deliverries
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying my programme as it allows for my knowledge and understanding to be validated so that it is then transferable to toher companies. It also enables me to gain a further understanding of what my new job role includes from people management to how the valued customer experience can be improved.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
The news skills I have learnt are as follows: cash management, dealing with customer complaints, authorising hours completed and hours changed on time and allowance program. The skills i have developed include now being cross trained so I am able to work both bar and the kitchen and I have also developed my cellar Skills which now includes the knowledge of the line clean cleaning system used by JDW

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised from start to finish. My tutor books time slots that work around my shifts and I'm able to ammend them when needed. The information gained for each session has become invalueable to myself as a member of the management team. Each session is structured to that I'm not attending the next session without a rough knowledge of the subject matter.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My shift manager [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is extremely supportive. He has provided valued help in regards to choosing a topic for my business project and has offered continued support to be able to extend my knowledge so that my course becomes more applicable to the company and job role I am currently in
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is fantastic. She offers not only course help towards my qualification but offers a friendly ear to talk about things that can potentially effect how successful I am in completing my course. She offers various learning styles that can be adapted to how the session is going that day
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification is helping me to understand the various different parts to being a member of the management team. It helps me to adapt my management style in accordance. To the situation that is occuring at the time and whether things can be done any differently to allow for smooth running of the shifts.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The main social activity that I have participated in within the work setting had been character breakfast for families which is trying to encourage more people in to the pub during the school holidays. Other than those the only other social events are staff nights out which is arranged by the pub manager

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JD Wetherspoon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JD Wetherspoons has a above average minimum wage that can be adjusted slightly the longer you stay with the company. It also offers a very good training scheme through both in-house training and development and the apprenticeship scheme. The company also offers free shares and buyable shares in the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JD Wetherspoon?
Don't be put off by the small amount of hours offered on the advertisement. The pubs always had extra shifts that need filling either due to holiday or sickness. The discount scheme offered by wetherspoons is a good reason along with the rate of pay, flexibility and developement opportunities offered.
