Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work on projects with large clients to provide digital and tech transformation solutions including many different technologies. Most of my days start with a daily standup in which we discuss yesterdays tasks and what we are looking to do today. After that we take JIRA tickets and move forward with tasks and communicate throughout the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme, this is an amazing opportunity for all students and despite any downsides I would recommend it. I may not enjoy everything but the way we are treated by our colleagues is respectful and helpful. Especially the free degree and travel is nice compared to other people in our area.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I have learnt many new skills here, however a large amount of them have been very business oriented rather than being technical skills which isn't perfect since this is a computer science degree. My soft skills have significantly improved however and I feel comfortable working in a large or small company.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
As this is the second year this programme is live the structure can be somewhat lackluster, the ideas work well however sometimes the ideas management put forward are not what any interns are happy with. There is a bit of disconnect between knowing that we are computer science students and not business students so this leads to problems.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support for me personally is excellent. I have both a career coach and a buddy who are both supportive in different aspects. Starting work was quite nervewracking however very quickly I felt at place and I enjoyed it. Not only do I have that support but my actual team is very easy to talk to and friendly as well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider (the university) is not helpful when attempting to train us for the role, however I believe this is just because the role itself is quite different from the degree we are working for.
In different areas of the business your team will push you to receive qualifications for whatever technologies you are working on as well as general training days. I have received multiple qualifications for salesforce and azure. They also pay for them all including retakes! This is a very positive aspect of this apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think my computer science experience has helped me a lot to be better at my job however I don't think that's because of my direct learning but rather the learning skills and work ethic which this degree provides. If the role itself was more technical this would be more useful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of things to get involved with, there are a lot of social activities both with your team, line of service and home office as well. As well as this local offices start football teams and other activities which are friendly and easy to join if your typical day allows for it.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Although the way they have implemented this role might not be perfect this is a great opportunity to get involved in the world of business with genuine real world experience which will be extremely beneficial for anyone starting their career. The support at PwC is also ahead of other companies and this makes it a friendly place to join.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Talk about how you've heard about their people culture and that you want to join a firm that works hard together. On interview days be respectful but confident and be a genuine person, faking a persona will never be appealing to them as they hire a wide range of people.
