Digital Marketing Summer Intern Review

My role as a digital intern is to focus on product page optimisation across all retailers such as Amazon, Boots, Superdrug, etc. I collaborate with e-Merchandising, Marketing and Social teams ensuring the ecommerce projects are aligned with everyone involved. On a day-to-day basis I write product copy, create assets, create promotions, analyse data, identify trends within the market.

I was given a lot more responsibility than I had anticipated. I was given the responsibility of directing communicating with service providers and clients, ensuring the quality of deliverables as well as submitting them to clients. I had to make quick decisions on product pages with no consultation from my managers. I also lead meetings and presented to senior stakeholders.

Over my internship, I have learnt a lot about time management and learnt how/what to prioritise in different scenarios. I have learnt to adapt and work in a professional environment. I have learnt to create and present information in an organised and efficient manner. I have developed my excel skills, having had to create and work on numerous spreadsheets. I have also developed my confidence by immersing myself into uncomfortable scenarios and managing them.

I received incredible support and guidance from my manager as well as those I was working around. The environment created is that of approachability and not being afraid to make mistakes which is so important, especially at this entry level. My manager always made the time to check in with me and see how I was managing all of my workload.

The company's culture is extremely friendly. From coworkers to strangers, everyone is very approachable and willing to help. The fast paced nature of the company creates this buzzing and energized environment. L'Oreal also highly prioritise the needs of their employees alongside their wellbeing and safety. It is also such a diverse place with people from all over the world working together.

My internship was one of the best experiences I've ever had. It was incredible to learn and work at such a huge company that impacts and affects so many people. It was so exciting being around my favourite brands in a professional environment to learn how they operate and the processes that occur between a product being created and it reaching you as a consumer. The whole thing was fascinating.
