Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as a student paramedic, under the supervision of a register paramedic and respond to emergency and urgent incidences throughout the East Midlands Area.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am enjoying the challenge of working towards a university standard. This has not been easy for me, however it has been good challenge and I have enjoyed learning new ways of thinking.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Both, I have been able to develop existing skills and throughout attending University and my work based placements I have been able to learn new skills. One example being cannulation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I do understand that we are the first cohort to progress through this process. At the start it was difficult, however moving into the final year it has been noted that improvements have already been made to the programme
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I have been very lucky and have had the opportunity to work with some amazing practice educators and I still continue to learn so much from them 10/10 stars. However, personally I feel their is a lack of support from my employer, not giving enough time to complete assignments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
the training provider has always point out that assistance is there as long as you ask for it. The academic educators have been supportive throughout my time at university and there always seems to be plenty of access to support form the library services.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
well without complete this apprenticeship I would not be able to become a registered paramedic with the HCPC whilst still remaining in full time employment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
no

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend East Midlands Ambulance Service to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel that it is privilege to work for the ambulance service as you are there in the patients hour of need. There is always going to be bad incidences, but some of your college become very close friends due to the experience you go through together. Not many people can understand that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to East Midlands Ambulance Service?
My advice would be when you start come in and learn as much as you can from the colleagues you work with. take best bit from them and develop them into your own practice. And most importantly, never stop asking question. Within this role and previous roles I have also continued to learn and it is something that I really love about the job.
