Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes being part of the management team within my branch of the company. I assist the kitchen manager in running the kitchen and tasks behind the scenes in the office. My job role also included being enrolled in catering academy to train and be signed off in hopes of progressing into a kitchen manager job myself.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy that I have learnt many new things and developed over the course of the time I have been involved in my apprenticeship. It’s easy to follow and the support that I receive is amazing. It’s not overly difficult and it’s spread out nicely over the months to allow a balance

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed new and existing skills. I have developed my knowledge of management skills and the different types within a company. I have also developed my writing skills and communication skills. I have also learnt the best skills and needed skills in which are effective within the job role that I am in.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured. Everything is pre set out on the website in which learners use. We have a one to one trainer which allows for us to contact them easily when needed. We have a meeting once a month to discuss what I’ve done or learnt and even to learn if you haven’t had chance!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I get complete support from my employer. They are the ones that suggested it and encourage doing an apprenticeship. I’m always asked how I want to plan in my meetings and learning. They are very flexible if I need time to do something and offer full support and advice if needed during the modules
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My trainer provider offers complete support. When first introduced I received full contact details; phone number, email and whatever else was needed. As a learner I can contact her whenever throughout the month and am assisted in anything I need help with. They are also very good because if you have any general issues at work they can help to solve those
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification really helps me within my job role. I learn all aspects of management and employees and business things. I can suggest things at work with a valid reason and help improve our company on the daily. I have learnt what works best and when. I have also learnt why we do what we do
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My work offers charity events such as darts, football and other things that each pub can enter with a team of volunteers to raise money and awareness for the charity that we, as a company, continue to raise awareness and money for. My pub also does bake sales in which we compete in a “bake off” for best cakes in which we donate to sell

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JD Wetherspoon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JD Wetherspoon is really a decent place to work. The team makes the place and the support and little family you make is like no other. Also the offer of an apprenticeship fully paid for at any age is amazing. It really helps you to progress and is a company that you can strive to succeed in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JD Wetherspoon?
Be yourself totally! It’s really important to just be passionate and have an open mind. It’s not always an easy job and depending on your location every pub and team is different. Once your in the company you can basically transfer to any pub in the country. Really just put time and effort in and it’s a good place to work
