Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a trainee auditor was to communicate with my team and decide on the tasks that I could work on, on a day-to-day basis. Examples include: asking support from client for the testing we were performing as part of our documentation procedures. For example, invoices, loan agreements, detailed listings etc. I took responsibility for my own work and assigned areas and ensured I'd let the team know of any challenges I incurred!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
To a great extent! The Flying Start programme is very enjoyable as you get the chance to get the both of best worlds; being a student at university and a professional at work placements! It's very exciting to see how many new people you engage/work with and make great networks!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Definitely! Part of my role was to learn PwC's systems (i.e. Aura). This have been very helpful considering that the majority of my work has been based on it. Excel is highly used in the profession and looking back, I can confidently say I developed well my skills, but still keen to enhance my skills even more!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It's well structured and gives you an understanding of what to expect throughout the year. There are early inductions during the year to support us at university and another one during the start of the placement to ensure the smooth transition. It's so nice to see the amount of support a person can get in this programme!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
It's great to see how much support you can get! There are many people you can refer to in case you want to raise a concern. From buddies to flying start champions to career coaches! In every team I've been involved the support has been amazing and that's something I'm grateful of!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My university is the training provider as well as ICAEW. Teaching is done in a very structured way and you know what to expect in the two semesters. You can always refer to your university tutor, lecturers or degree programme director! Support is not only academic but there many other initiatives to support your wellbeing!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
This is what the Flying Start Programme is all about! Putting classroom theory into commercial practice allows students to better understand what they are doing on placement! I will be able to better understand the profession and put what I've learned into practice as time passes and as I progress through the stages (university).
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes! Staying socially active is vital! There are many social activities you can participate within work. Every engagement has also its own 'socials' and this is very fascinating and nice to have some fun with your team other than work together!
