Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Joining a team in the TDI division, working with them on their existing projects.
We had daily scrum meetings, my team used React.js and I had to work on adding functionalities to their projects.
Also doing an intern team project on COVID-19 - using data science to analyse the effects of COVID-19 on the American economy.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I also started off a new project by myself, so I had a lot of responsibility to research and complete the task alone without the other team members.
There is also a good support system if you need help with anything.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Learnt about how technology teams operate, how tasks are provisioned, how everyone works together to complete a project.
Learnt about how a bank operates and why technology is needed to succeed in a bank.
Developed Python skills, as we used it in a group project and learnt a lot about DataFrames.
Developed social skills as many networking opportunities were provided virtually.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The recruitment team is also very active in supporting the interns, so if we had any concerns about the internship/logistics it would be easy to reach out.
However, tech support is not that helpful so it was difficult to set up and access certain things in the system.
How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Many diversity intiatives, including a corporate social responsibility day, a LGBTQ/BAME talk, there are clubs that graduates can join. Quite an even balance of men/women and many people of colour on the internship.
1-1 networking calls between interns/between interns and permanent staff were highly encouraged. However, it would have been nice for an in person chance to meet the other interns as it was quite difficult to maintain relationships online, and it would've been much easier in person.
How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
How would you rate the social opportunities?
How would you rate the diversity initiatives?
How would you rate the charity, sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives?
Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Everyone (both interns and staff) were very friendly, we had a good work-life balance including 5 days of paid leave during the 9-week internship so I had a really good time without being too stressed about the internship.
