We were taught about the various departments within the business what they did and why it was important for the business, we were assigned tasks to carry out within the week these consisted of group and individual activities to present to the rest of the cohort and get feedback on from professionals
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

i enjoyed it a lot, each day was a different experience with a lot of different activities to do, very educational and informative. it was really interactive and i never got bored or did not have anything to do, very active and enjoyable each and every day that i attended it .
How well organised was your work experience?

Very well organised! we were given a schedule for every day of the week for each hour and what we would be doing so i was never left unaware of what my next task would be or when i would have my break, it was very well structured and easy to keep up with.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

Quite a bit, it refined my choices down quite a bit. they went into detail into what one would do within each role in the sector within the business and also we had taster sessions for example we had an activity to do something in financial crime and these activities really helped me to learn what i enjoy the most and what i am good at.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?

No, however i do not mind that it was not paid because it was virtual so i did not have to travel or go through any extra costs , this was good because it meant the programme was accesible to all students regardless of their background, it would have been great to have a in real life experience

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

presenting skills were something that helped me a lot throughout the programme, throughought the five days i got much better at it, working as a team in a group was also very beneficial for team building and leadership skills. learning more about job roles within the business was interesting

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

a fair amount, we learnt about the company and their values, ethics and morals, this was beneficial but more so we learnt about what each role consisted of and what a typical day in their life at work would look like and what tasks it would entail to be in that sector within the business.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

Yes, most certainly . the main overview bits of the talks and discussions were lead by the student recruitment team but when we were practising interview skills or doing individual tasks we would sometimes be assigned with an employer so obviously have the chance to network with them and ask them questions which was very useful.

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?

Why?
It was a informative, activity packed day, I really like the business for the morals they hold and what their purposes are it seems like a really great company to work for and the work experience was very beneficial especially if you are not certain on the pathway you want to take in your career
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
Be yourself, I think it is important for your morals and ethics to match up with the companies naturally rather that answering questions depending on how you think HSBC would want you you to answer it, it is important to be yourself because then you will genuinely enjoy the process and the recruiters will want you to be a valuable member of their great work experience programme.
