Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
3/5
Getting involved as a team and presenting ideas to one another as well as learning about HSBC as a company and the different educational offers and job types they have within their company. I learnt about the different roles within different jobs and got to talk to employees about their experiences
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
2/5
I think the work experience was nice to listen to if you have a direct interest in working for HSBC In the future. I personally wanted experience within the banking industry and found that majority of the experience was only about the company. Overall, I enjoyed listening to people talk about their jobs but I would have enjoyed more to do
How well organised was your work experience?
4/5
The work experience was well organised. Everyone showed up on time and was ready with very minimal technical difficulties. When we were sectioned off into groups, it was very seamless and there were no issues there. Overall I would say the experience was well organised in all areas and they did a good job
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
2/5
I would say it helped with seeking information from those who are in jobs that interest me. However, as there wasn’t a lot that we did (granted it was over the phone and during covid), I would say it just helped me decide that I wanted to stick to finance
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
For this experience I was not paid or reimbursed. It was only for a week and the only main activities were sitting and listening so there was no expectation to get paid or reimbursed for this work experience programme, it was mainly to talk about the company rather than doing work

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
2/5
Within this work experience program, I developed my listening skills due to listening to a lot of presenters and also while listening to tasks. I also developed my communication skills while talking to not only those who run the program, but also those who participated along side me while we worked in groups

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
3/5
I learnt a lot about the companies values and expectations as well as how they treat their employees. From listening to current employees, I learnt about what their day to day life and activities within the business are like and what kinds of projects they tend to take on at work
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
We were given many opportunities to talk to staff that work within the company as there were multiple speakers per day talking about there say to day lives and what roles they have within the company. They also talked about the typical kinds of projects they participate and work on

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
In the event my friend was looking to work within HSBC in their future I would 100% recommend the programme as it’s very informative about the roles within the company and what kind of opportunities there are. If someone wants to experience working in a bank and doing tasks to see if it meets what they want to do in the future, I would not recommend
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
Do research on the company before any kind of interview as the company respects there values very much. I would also recommend thinking about possible questions you could get asked and preparing for them to ensure you are reading for as much as possible. Overall, just do a lot of research
