Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
In the work experience, we had to attend webinars and learn from employees at HSBC. They gave us lessons about branding and talked about the different departments at HSBC and helped us with interviews. We did a variety of tasks including presentations and got to ask questions about the job.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I really enjoyed the work experience, it was very fun and interactive, they had a really fun task regarding us guessing a 50 word statement and we got to do presentations and meet new people. I got to learn a lot about how to progress in life and the people were really friendly and supportive.
How well organised was your work experience?
3/5
I’d say it was organised, it was mapped out and detailed with the plans and what time everything is. Sometimes, the programs did overrun but everything was planned out nicely and we was given all necessary information in advance which was really beneficial. Overall, I’d say it was pretty organised.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
I believe HSBC really helped me with my future career paths as I was engaged in the procurement and Human Resources. Also, they told us about degree apprenticeships at HSBC and how they are more of the current employment trends then universities as they help the employee and HSBC diverse range of degree apprenticeship.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
2/5
No, HSBC doesn’t pay or reimburse expenses regarding work experience, the programme is more for information and since it was virtual there weren’t any extra travel expenses either. I believe they don’t pay since we didn’t do any tasks to benefit the company and it was more just us learning about the company.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I learnt about procurement and mainly how to progress in life. They taught us stuff like branding, the STAR interview technique and CV writing. I learnt about how you’s spot if there was any suspicious robbery though bank statements and what is needed to progress and the trend regarding degree apprenticeships.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I learnt a lot, they had people from all different departments and really emphasised equality and diversity. HSBC is very accepting of other diversities and culture and we was able to ask questions about how they got employed and the inclusion of the company. HSBC has many projects to promote diversity also.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. When a department at HSBC was presented it usually involved meeting employees within the department at the end of each presentation, there was an opportunity to ask questions and really learn about the concepts and ideas regarding HSBC and how to get ahead.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall, I enjoyed the work experience. HSBC is so friendly and supportive and they really care about the equality and diversity of candidates. It’s really informative and they have loads of fun, interactive tasks to do that will help build and develop you as an individual and push you out of your comfort zone.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
Definitely try apply as soon as you can and spend as much time as you can on your application. Be honest during the stages of employment and during interviews try follow the STAR interview technique, be proactive and research HSBC values and learn more about what they strive to achieve.
