Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am involved in all elements of the construction phase, from writing health and safety documents (permits, RAMS etc) to completing briefings on site. I also complete setting out activities with varying engineering equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning new engineering techniques for setting out and understanding engineering principles and how they play into the different packages of works on site. University can be stressful at times but will be worth it in the end.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt lots of interpersonal skills, gained knowledge in multiple pieces of engineering equipment, time management, work load management, public speaking (through giving briefings)

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well organised, my team are well aware of when I am at university and allow me the time to complete my university work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my line manager and my team, I really feel like they all want me to succeed within this apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
The training provider can be quite hit and miss, some lecturers are very understanding and helpful, some don't understand or appreciate the fact that I work 4 days a week so can struggle to complete all of the work set.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It helps me much better understand what is happening on site in a technical sense and gives me a greater understanding of different elements of the job that I am not exposed to as much, such as quantity surveying etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved with, including squash, football and badminton. There are also plenty of social events, for example going out for a team meal or drinks.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Skanska to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company has been nothing but supportive to me, they have helped me get promoted whilst completing my apprenticeship and support me fully with the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
Be honest and be willing to put the work in. My grades weren't the best when I joined but Skanska still took me on because I showed I was willing to learn and ready to get my head down and study.
