As a Flying Start, placement takes place for the in years 2-4 of the university degree programme at PwC. During your placement, you join the firm as a trainee audit associate and begin to use theory learnt university in practice. This often involves performing work at various parts of the audit alongside your team within planning, execution & completion.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme was very enjoy, simply from living in Central London, but also meeting many amazing people from various backgrounds who were able to share their personal experiences with me. I was lucky enough to work on the same client throughout placement so developed strong relationships with my team. I also met work colleagues who shared a passion for football so I joined a team while working at PwC.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a host of new skills in terms of being technically and digitally able, this includes Excel, Aura, Phoenix etc.
In terms of developing skills, I would say I have done this in developing my experience of the field of work I have been working in. For an example while performing testing on certain FSLIs of the financial statements, I have built my knowledge of the area which will allow me to document this in a clearer and more professional manner in my university exams

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised, I wasn't aware that Flying Start students actually play an important role in the day to day running of teams at PwC. My team knew of my course and actively wanted to play a role in helping me develop as much as possible during my stay.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We were required to go through a 2 week training programme before placement to bring everyone up to speed with the employer's demands. Throughout placement I was assigned a career coach and a buddy. I met regularly with my buddy who helped guide me when I needed advice and settle me into the firm.

The programme itself is one of a kind, something which is not offered by other firms within the industry. They are heavily invested in your personal development and provide all the support necessary to achieve your qualifications.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Be prepared for hard work and long hours at times, but do not let this deter you as the firm is fully committed to your personal development and progression. The work can be very rewarding and the people are extremely friendly and supportive.
