Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I do small jobs for people in my client teams such as email drafts. Also, I get delegated more specialist tasks such as calculations, billing and client communication. I am on 11 client teams which are a mix of corporate and trustee clients, and a specialist team called Collective Defined Contributions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed my programme so far and are very lucky to be able to be a part of it. All my colleagues no matter the level of seniority are all very friendly and help me to develop my skills and explain tasks fully to aid my learning. Also it is a very forward thinking company which is great to be able to be a part of.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots of new skills such as different types of calculations, Aon's specific way of using excel through a program called CTG, how best to ask for work when light, time management between my work and study and how to communicate with the client appropriately. I have been able to continue to develop my mathematical skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme has a timetable of what we are expected to achieve each month in terms of study; log book sections, chapters in textbooks and mock exams. This has made it very easy to follow and track how I'm doing in addition to monthly catch-up calls with a personal coach.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I'm very lucky that my employer and colleagues are very understanding of the structure of an apprenticeship. By this I mean that the company is willing to let me take time off for study days and allows more time for me to do a task since I am still learning.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have a personal coach who I have monthly calls with to go through what I have been up to on the work and study sides. This has been very helpful as it means that I can check my progress to keep on track and am reminded of any upcoming things.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Having the study alongside the work means that not only do I have clearer goals in terms of my exams, but I have an opportunity to keep developing my mathematical skills and not just do tasks for the company that are helpful. It makes sure that I am always developing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work there are always meetings for the new joiners to go over issues and regroup to focus on our goals which is always helpful. In addition to this there is usually a social after work that day where we are able to relax and network with other new joiners around us.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have had an extremely enjoyable and welcoming experience into the company by the company itself as well as my colleagues who are always very friendly and willing to explain things to me to aid my development. As a young person I have never felt talked down to in any capacity which has been a problem for me in the past.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
I would say to just go for it and give it everything you've got as there are understandably not a lot of spaces due to the high levels of attention each apprentice receives. Also prepare yourself for the work study balance if that is something you've haven't dealt with before!
