My role is to provide, support and repair fibre optic and telecommunication infrastructure working my working area, specifically cabling as part of the ‘fibre network delivery.
My role involves quality and safety checks of the existing infrastructure, providing a accessible route for ducts and cables,
Cabling equipment such as ducts and cables.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Very much enjoying it, I feel I am gaining a very useful qualification from the apprenticeship. That I can use in my role which also gives me a much better understanding and skill set associated with my role.
My programme looks very interesting and that makes me keen to work on my apprenticeship in and out of working hours.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Skills I have learnt during my training, include
Safe use of ladders, climbing telecommunication poles including ‘TETRA KIT’, use of PPE.
My driving skills have massively developed
And developing skills with trailer towing and machinery/equipment on our work vans.
I have learnt and I am still developing cabling techniques such as ‘ridding and roping’
Cabling winch and box lifting

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Extremely well. I have done programmes before that were of the same nvq level and they were no where near as organised and presented such as this programme.
I have been regularly updated
And shown a clear route of how I will progress and the layout of my programme has been well documented to me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A massive amount!
I don’t feel like I’m having my ‘hand held’ but I am being provided with clear and helpful advice/support. And I feel strongly that I was unsure or didn’t understand something my senior colleagues/managers and fellow team with help me which makes me confident I can achieve well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Loads of support can and is provided by my employer such as online training
Class’s where I can learn from trainers who have first hand experience.
I have been sent a clear work plan in which it’s clearly documented how and when I will enrol and work on my apprenticeship
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel enrolling in the programme massively helps me to perform better in my role. A qualification helps me to understand the aspects of my role, such as the equipment I will use the the hardware I will be installing (cables, joints CBT) and how my role contributes to the network build
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, openreach provide a great working balance, and they keep you local to the area you live, so meeting people in your team usually live near you, which provides a fantastic platform social activities out of working hours.
Openreach give so many days to the employees to do charitable events in your local area
