Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We were given a timetable for the Vacation Scheme which scheduled talks from various departments as well as several networking and social events.
In the breaks in the timetable I worked on tasks set by my Supervisor (i.e., an Associate in the department) and arranged my own 'Zoom' networking sessions with various people in the firm.
I worked on several live transactions for high-profile clients. For example, I created a presentation slide for an M and A client and reviewed an NDA. I talked with my 'Buddy' (i.e., a Trainee in the department) at different points throughout the day to catch up and discuss any questions that I had.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Through the Vacation Scheme I came to understand the strategy, direction and culture of Baker McKenzie. By talking to so many people at so many different levels at the firm you get a strong idea of what life would be like working at the firm long-term.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, I really improved my networking skills. Baker McKenzie encouraged Vacation Scheme Attendees to reach out to people in the firm for virtual 'coffee catch ups' and I found this was a great way to immerse myself in the culture of the firm.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very welcoming! From other Vacaction Scheme Attendees to Trainees to the Graduate Recruitment Team and the members of Managing Committee, the people at Baker McKenzie were all genuinely friendly and helpful.

The Graduate Recruitment Team at Baker McKenzie have put out a lot of very useful information about the firm, the application process and other hints/tips. Podcasts like 'The Trainee Test' as well as the Graduate Recruitment London Instagram page are really helpful.
