Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Ranges completely day to day. Site visits, meetings, setting up and working on cost plans, managing valuations of the office, measuring valuation, creating tender package comparisons. Literally can get involved and assist with anything to do with cost in a construction project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love the apprenticeship programme I'm on. The support and help is unreal from everyone working at Mace. What I do on a day to day basis is good. I can relate to what Mace stand for. I feel any opportunity I have the full backing to go for it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt and developed loads of skills, from confidence, team work and communication to key competencies that are required in my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured, it is easy to get a bit lost with it because the amount we do it does feel fast paced and you do have to be on it, but there is so much support from anyone at Mace you never feel alone and lost. I think the organisation can be better, the apprentice training days are the same day as my uni day so I do miss out on these at the moment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Everything, in and outside of work life. Apprentice team, HR, my Line Manager, Directors, colleagues. Genuinely feel like I could go up to anyone in the office and they would help me to the best they could which is great.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support is there from the lecturers, but I do feel like it could be better. The main issue is the organisation of the uni but for one day a week I don't think it's that bad.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
What I learn at Uni does help me slightly on a day to day basis, but the experience I get from work is much higher because that's actual real life. I do feel the qualification will aid me in my career later on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Loads from social events, volunteering days, opportunities to visit different projects. The Birmingham/Central office where I work could do with a bit more on the social event side, but apart from that there is loads of different extra-curricular activities I can get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Simple, Mace is a great place to work and develop professionally and personally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
Main one is being yourself, interviewers will be looking to see if you are a good fit to the company. So try and find what the company does that relates to you (values/priorities/purpose). This can be literally anything, I related the amount of experience and education that related to the career path I was going down to Mace's value of creating opportunity.
Another tip is practice interviews and get Linked In and connect with the company and people who work there and people in similar positions to see what they get up to etc etc.
