Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I handle the shop floor and handle the online deliveries. I have to pick and pack the requested items by online customers. I also deal with telephone calls from unsatisfied companies. During the day I work at the checkout and do shelfing for the deliveries that come in like bread.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I like it to a great extent because I'm learning new things with my sessions with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. The tasks make me think about my day to day at Iceland. I'm learning the British values and the importance of teamwork and leadership skills. Its been a good experience so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have learnt communication skills from talking to customers daily and my colleagues daily. I've developed good teamworking skills because I have to talk to my coworkers and the store manager. I also have organisation skills because picking and shelfing stock is a task that constantly requires it.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured well as I have regular meetings with my supervisor. He goes through things clearly and helps me understand things I do not know. Sometimes the tasks are very content heavy and hard to do alongside my job but I try to manage it as well as I can.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My old manager supported me a lot with my apprenticeship. He helped to give me tasks to match the programme such as doing the changeover and giving me responsibilities as duty manager. He was very supportive and helped me put the tasks in real life situations at work in Iceland.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider gives me a lot of support. He is very helpful and has the answers to all of my questions. He is very understanding when i cannot complete a task and helps work me through it when we have our monthly meetings. He makes the apprenticeship very organised.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I understand why I have to do things in my job like great customer service because the qualification shows the benefits of it. The qualification also helps me to educate myself better especially in maths and English. The retail tasks have been good because I can use the examples at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have work dinners every few months. It's nice to talk to my staff in an informal place and chat and have some fun without any stress. I have made a lot of friends at work this way. It helps to make the work environment more friendly and nice.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Iceland Frozen Foods to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great place to go up in your retail career. The staff members are very friendly and you you make great relationships with people. The store is small so you can recognise customers and make friendly conversation regularly. The company also gave me the opportunity of doing an apprenticeship which is great.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
Show why you like retail and the skills you have. Organisation and communication skills are important for picking up online delivery and doing the shelfing. They are also important when speaking to customers who are our main priority. Being friendly and making good conversation with customers will make sure they come back as Iceland customers.
