Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

my role as a quantity surveyor currently consists of reviewing subcontractors payments and sending the payments to accounts, i also do admin work such as creating a timesheet for 2022 and comparisons between different companies. Furthermore i also draft instructions for subcontractors to complete works once i have received quotes and approvals from the relevant colleagues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i enjoy having the responsibility to process payments for sub contractors, and i enjoy learning more and more on the job. furthermore interacting with more people is enjoyable, however the long travel hours is not the best but the flexible hours means i can work from home two days a week so this makes up for it.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have developed my ability in excel spreadsheet, this is something that is important to improve when in my field of work because lots of work is completed in this document. i have also improved my ability to use and edit PDF files which again is something i use a lot from day to day.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

my programme is well structured for the most part with the lecturers being very helpful however i didn't find out my placement until a week before i was due to go on it which was a bit hard for me to find travel arrangements, also more regular meetings with my assessor would be more useful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

i receive lots of support from my employer regarding flexibility as they know it is hard to balance work and education. Also at times I am provided time to work on assignments i have for the course which really helps me out in handing things in on time, and ensuring i get a good grade.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

i would say i receive an adequate amount of support but as i have said earlier, i think more frequent meetings with my assessor would help, also additional help during college time for my individual project would have been beneficial for not only me but many mre students i have spoken too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

i think the course i did in college really helped me to understand what goes on in my role, and made me into a more professional person when finally starting on my placement. furthermore the placement i am doing is also adding to my understanding of work done in college so i think they both contribute to one another,
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

yes there are social events that take place frequently a few of which are 'office sports day' and 'Christmas markets visit' not to include the works Christmas party, these events are a very good place to let your hair down and interact with all of your colleagues out of a working environment.

Why?
they are a very supportive company with good pay and they really look after their employees. furthermore, the opportunities you get as a BAM Employee far oversees that of other companies and the pathway to progress is also very clear, not to mention the apprenticeship scheme is also a very good environment to be in and learn from.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
do it as early as possible because for me (covid may have played a part in this) the interview process was very long and i had a while to wait before i started. Also if you arent sure what you want to do dont worry becasue BAM are very flexible if you would like to change roles.
