Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis I monitor rig progress, produce as builts surveys and process, carry out site inspections and fill out paperwork, diary entries. I also set out when needed, ensure everyone has signed in and is wearing correct Personal protective equipment, receive orders and complete outstanding college work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy enjoy my apprenticeship programme, I like how it is structured as I have a college block where I study with other apprentices from my company for 9 weeks and I go on placement to a project for the rest of the year, where I get to put everything I have learnt into practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot during college, I completed 4 units during college, which gave me theory and practical help needed for my placement on site. Practical wise, I learnt how to set up total stations, dumpy levels and produce as builts and process them. As I am no on placement, I have further developed these skill.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
As mentioned previously, my programme is well structured allowing us to have plenty of time to complete all assigned work needed to complete during college block and we get help from our lectures any time we need. Leeds college of Building is very understanding. When we are assigned work to complete during placement, we are given plenty of time as we are working.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
College wise, my employers visit us on a regular basis, they ask us how we are doing, if we have any concerns regarding our lectures and if we’re keeping on top of our work. Placement wise, I have a line manager that I report to in my division, but I also have a mentor from site and my line manager from college
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As previously mentioned, I received a lot of help from my training provider, I have a head of year and a mentor which helps me with my endpoint assessment at the end of my apprenticeship. Even if I can’t physically attend a lecture, all lessons are recorded so I can catch up.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I believe that my qualifications make me competent to fulfil most of my duties on site, as most things I learn in college I use on site and my qualifications allow me to know the reason behind what I do rather than just doing something for the sake of it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
BAM Ritchies are coming together to raise money for charity. This is a charity sport event where people can walk run or cycle 66 miles. The money raised will go to the lighthouse club charity. There is also a football club every Wednesday and an engineers forum hosted in a golf club every 3 months
