Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a second assistant manager and am third in charge. This can be quite challenging but my skills and education helps me a lot to make the right decisions. I serve customers, make food and deal with the business side of the company such as recruitment, training and profit and loss.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme is very good and successful for developing myself. I enjoy it a lot as it challenges me and pushes me to become a better manager. My programme is stressful and not easy as I am a full time student and a full time assistant manager but I like how it pushes me.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The biggest thing to come out of my degree apprenticeship is that I have learnt many new skills and developed skills I already had greatly. This is because of my education and learning which has taught me what skills are needed as a manager and why this helps everyone and the business. The work experience has really improved my skills as I have first hand experience on many different situations which have developed my skills greatly.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme overall is very well structured, especially around the workplace. For example, my 6 weeks summer break is between December and February as the workplace is very busy and it is very difficult to focus on university work during this period. The programme is very suited for our lifestyle.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support for my employer is mixed. My franchise and regional manager is very supportive and wants the best for me. My supervisor isn't as supportive as they are more focused on the business. My current business manager is very supportive and ensures I get the required time off the floor which is the main thing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The university I attend is very supportive especially as we aren't attending the university a lot like other students. They are always at the end of the phone or an email away and will always respond quickly. Our skills mentor is very helpful on ensuring we are okay with both work and university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

A lot of my learning through my course helps me perform better in my role as it is linked to a lot of different aspects of the business. They provide many different theories to help improve areas of the business and to improve my skills and knowledge as a manager.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Due to covid and restrictions, many of the extra curricular activities have been reduced however they are slowly coming back. Some of these include, crew night out, managers night out, salaried night out and the salaried race day. These are all paid for and are very fun to spend time outside of work with colleges.

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a very welcoming and fun employer as no day is ever the same. The staff is really what sets McDonalds and other employers apart as everyone is different and comes from different walks of life. This brings everyone closer as we have to work together as a team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
My advice is that McDonalds isn't an easy place to work in as it is very fast pace and can be difficult during busy times. However, the people are what makes a difference. Everyone is so friendly and kind and are really like friends and family as you are working all the time together.
