Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is very diverse and due to the nature of the job, I have worked on a variety of projects from new hospitals to modular home studies and everything in-between. I am increasingly responsible for managing the information associated with these structures from the BIM information model to incoming data from clients and architects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I think I got particularly lucky with my program. After attempting in the past I have finally ended up in my ideal position based on the work itself, the company and the people. Obviously like any job it has ups and downs but on reflection the downs have only ever been during difficult times in my development when learning new challenging things.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since the start of the apprenticeship everything has been new learning and development coming from education. Having a supporting team around me meant that any questions or quires could be answered and I had the opportunity to practice what I have leant. I look forward to continuing the learning experience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Considering this apprenticeship is a new trial for the company there were bound to be some adjustments along the way but so far have only encountered positive growth and feedback. Learning is progressing well alongside the work itself, in fact the overall timeframe for completion has shortened by an estimated 6-8 months.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
AS much as I could ever possibly need. It's down to the individual circumstances but in my position, as long as I was willing to ask, they would answer. To help out above and beyond I was assigned a mentor who has years of relevant experience to fall back on when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider has been excellent when it comes to providing all the required resources in a timely manner and encouraging progress and development. My training assessor as an individual also has years of relevant experience which goes along way to understanding and interpreting tasks to suit my line of work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification has a keen focus on continuous personal development or CDP, this is always at the back of the mind and can be related to project work as you progress. It allows the ability to more accurately reflect on the learning experiences that day to day working can provide.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
With COVID being a limiter to social interaction, the amount of event that can go ahead have been limited but I can't fault the attempts and consistency. I have been a part of social events when the rules allowed and there are dedicated funds available to expense such events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are an amazing company who not only provide the essentials but go above and beyond to ensure that employees stick around. They won the award for Britain's most desirable company and I can understand why. Great people to work with and the support is always there when needed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
I would suggest that if the role is something you are interested in for the long term, there is no question in applying. Even if it's short term, the flexibility form within allows for personal growth and development in different areas, departments and offices around the globe based on individual circumstances
