Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Within my company you can be working on an array of different projects everyday. My role usually consists of working on SharePoint, powerBi, Excel and i get to do a lot of programming as well. Due to the nature of the apprenticeship i get a lot of experience in areas that aren't where my job is.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme. The culture of the company is great, everyone is so nice and welcoming. Even the people at the top of the company make sure to chat to everyone and know everyone which really makes the place feel warm and welcoming. I knew a lot of this going into the job but it really has been better than expected.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My programming skills have come on leaps and bounds. Currently undertaking a degree in data science which has improved my mathematics skills a lot. I am also doing several courses from microsoft, all around data science and using powerbi. I have also learned a lot about professional etiquette. How to email colleagues, call them, take part in meetings etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Currently i am the first apprentice undertaking my specific degree in the region. Due to this there has been a few hiccups mainly just in trying to find projects to complete my assessments on. My team are always willing to help and communication has been amazing so i really can't fault them
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve a lot of support. My mentor is great, catches up with me most days and is always free for a chat when i need it. Even my wider team look our for me and they all have amazing attitudes and are able to guide me and support me through my work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get 4 meetings a year with my work mentor and university mentor. My university mentor is easy to talk to and always willing to help me. Any time i've emailed they get back to me very quickly and efficiently. The attitude from the lectures is great. So supportive.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think it does a lot. Due to how the degree works i do 80% of my university work on the job. This means i learn during my classes one day a week and then get to apply this to my work and get to prove my learning through the assessments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, i take part in multiple data science specific catch ups. This allows me to get a flavour of what is happening in data science around the company but also helps to find leads to jobs for projects and assessments. There are many social events and sports teams as well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a great company to work for. From day one you'll feel like you are a big part of it and feel like you are actually making a difference. Even from such a junior position. If you have goals they will support you 100% and help you in anyway to reach them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
Be yourself. When interviewing and filling in the application try to let your personality shine through as this is how you and Arup will realise if you will be a good fit. The interview was good and not as scary as i had thought it would be so try to relax.
