Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Currently we are in our first year and are at college full time working on learning practical electrical fitting techniques (working on different types of circuits e.g. parallel and series lighting circuits) and one day a week we are in classroom learning (eg learning things such as ohm's law).
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy our programme, it is very interesting and engaging and gives you a lot of opportunities to develop yourself both in your chosen field and as a person. Starting in a larger group is also good as you all develop together and can help each other out if there are things you might not understand

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned many new skills. Having never worked in the electrical or engineering field before I had to start from scratch but we have slowly built up our skills over the first year. Being in a classroom one day per week also really helps develop our skills and knowledge

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The organisation is well structured and well run, we have regular reviews that help us understand how well we are doing and what things we are able to improve on. The way that Babcock and the college work together closely helps us develop the right skills for later on in our apprenticeship and later employment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive a lot of support from our employer, any issues that we have we can approach our managers with and when we are in college we are able to approach any of the lecturers if we have any issues.
Our regular reviews are also a good opportunity to bring up any concerns or questions we may have
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We receive a lot of support from our training provider while working towards our qualifications. In the college our lecturers are very approachable and very supportive in any questions we have, and as Babcock and the college work very closely together this means that we can also approach our managers at Babcock if there are any concerns with our qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Working toward our qualification helps us a lot in performing better at our role as we develop both practical skills as well as a greater understanding of the basic concepts of the systems we are working on. Having started completely from scratch this first year has been vital in developing my skills and understanding.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are not currently any Babcock run extra-curricular activities that I am involved in, but the the group of people I have started working with are very social out side of work and we regularly meet up with each other outside of work which helps us work better together when in work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would definitely recommend Babcock to any body else as an apprenticeship provider. You learn a lot of great skills, develop a great understanding of your trade, have great opportunities to develop yourself and will make good friends. It is challenging but is definitely worth it in the long run.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
The application process can take quite a while, but it is definitely worth applying and waiting it out. Try your hardest to understand the company prior to your interview, plan out what answers you will have to their questions. Once you have started your apprenticeship just make sure to always apply yourself and try your hardest and will pay off massively.
