Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Currently I am full time in Plymouth City college completing all necessary tasks to become competent with the job, it involves understanding basic electrical principles, completing domestic electrics, making support systems ( conduit and trunking) and knowing how to stay safe when at work involving knowing specific regulations and necessary ppe and equipment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many new skills not only in the workshop but also in textcert (theory), I have learnt about different components and what they provide, different parts of motors and generators and how they work and different mathematical methods . In the workshop I have learnt how to krimp, drill, cut and file to a high level of accuracy and how to distinguish unsafe work methods.

Why?
I would recommend babcock to friends because it is an enjoyable experience where you get to learn valuable skills both practically and in the classroom that can give you a better understanding of modern day engineering, plus all staff at babcock and Plymouth City college are very understanding and available if there is any problems that you face during the apprenticeship and able to adapt.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
That they should take their time with the application making sure that they are happy with there covering letter and having a project that allows you to stand out. Plus attending to all of babclocks welcome evening and open days, these talks provide a lot of information about the job and can make you certain if engineering is the carear path you want to go down.
