Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day to day my job is to build the fibre network, I am on a team called the chief engineers, so we do the job from
Start to finish overseeing the whole build, from Test rod and roping to splicing and quality checking, as well as fixing issues contractors may have.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The job is a good place to work and I’ve heard they are good at supporting development in the business.
Overall is enjoy the ability to work in a business where there is flexibility and not target driven in my department.
It’s a good place to work when it’s not raining

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I feel I have always been hands on, however looking back in the past year I can see how much I have developed in the business, I can complete most elements of my job and Thoes I have not yet mastered, I feel I could complete with the help of a supervisor.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
From my experience I feel like the apprenticeship is on the back burner. Hope ever you pick up skills and experience relevant to the apprenticeship in the day to day job, so when a apprenticeship day rolls around, you’ve got the knowledge anyways, so I suppose it is a productive way
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The business as a whole are flexible letting us attend apprenticeship days etc. However I feel there needs to be more of a personal one 2 one element with a manager. So we know where we can improve our performance and ability to do our job to a better standard.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training manager is [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], he is very good at completing apprenticeship days and is someone who can support in anyway when your unsure of the task, he is also supportive when it comes to getting things wrong, and points you in the right direction or gives you the materials to improve
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I feel I have learned everything on the job and essentially It isn’t really down to my qualification, I have learned mostly off the people I work with on a day to day basis as appose to the course. I feel I would be on the same standard if I wasn’t on an apprenticeship
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I do not complete any extra curricular activities however I have been informed that I have the option to take a short amount of time, I believe 3/4 days to complete a volunteer work, this is something that would be good, but I don’t feel the business have driven this option

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall good experience, good money and ability to complete overtime, good employee benefits such as discount on broad band, phone and tv as well as discount on we products.
The ability to learn new things and work in a different place every day and work with a diverse group of people
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Just to have the knowledge that the business will decide your job after you get a job offer, when you go to tar field for induction you find out your job role? So don’t assume you know what you will be doing, and be open to criticism as sometimes coming from a job where you may know everything it’s hard not knowing anything
