Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm currently working in contract management, where I am responsible for looking into the revenue, profit and loss of contracts. I have to communicate to teams offshore on a daily basis to understand how we can increase discounts, understand what services aren't making a profit so we can reach out margin.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my scheme very much. It's great to see that apprentices are given the same responsibilities to those who are full time workers. We are also able to have social and networking event with other apprentices and grads which is great for expanding our knowledge of other job opportunities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a wide rang of skills from stakeholder management, written and verbal communicating. I have also been able to further my knowledge on excel which has been a key aspect in my everyday role. There is so much support and learning knowledge calls to make your you are continuously improving.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I would say the structure of my programme is good, however can be a bit confusing. Our uni course if only 3 years, where our apprenticeship with BT is 4 years. It might be worth looking into as some of the modules we do expect us to discuss our role and that can be difficult when you are in the process of moving.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is so much support available to us from speaking with our line manager to the early careers managers in BT. We also have a skills coach who supports us in managing the 20% of the job ours we get. BT also push on D&I, so there is so much support and networks you can join.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I'm currently with QA and there is so much support there for us. On top of having the lectures and the weekly 1 hour office hours. They have partnered with a company where they have a team called the ACE team where you can book in 1-2-1 sessions to discuss more general things like the structure of referencing
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has made me become more aware of things in BT such as financial statements, their digital strategy and getting back to growth. It has also given me the opportunity to network with senior leaders to understand their style of leadership and manage their teams which has supported my understanding in become a great leader myself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there is so much to get involved in. We have a early careers group which consists of over 400 Grads, apprentices and IP's. I'm currently managing monthly learning hours which we plan ourselves . BT have a huge focus on D&I, so there is lots of networks and support groups to join and get stuck in

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Despite starting my apprentice wrong from home, BT has provide me wit the best support to a make sure I feel comfortable and confident in my role. I have also become more confident in myself more specifically, how I manage people and communicate verbally with my stakeholders on presentation calls.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Preparation is key. Understanding BT's values and how you can contribute to them. Dress the part, show that you are keen. Then, ask questions, I have found that the interviews on assessment centres are just normal people working normal jobs so ask them about their role and why they chose it.
