Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a retail assistant, I put stock out when delivery's come in, I also complete gap scans in the store to check for any missing items that might be in the warehouse. I serve customers on the checkout when it gets busier in store. At the end of the day I also do the waste and face up the store and make it look presentable.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme as its given me plenty of opportunities to learn new skills. It has also widened my knowledge within my supermarket. Its also nice to do a bit of extra learning on the side on my days off, keeps me occupied and gives me something else to do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills, such as how to use the HHT's when checking for certain items. I have also learnt how to do online picks, and picks the correct shopping with the correct dates on them. I have boosted my confidence in talking with customers and answering and queries the customers might have face to face and on the phone.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very well structured. I have regular meetings with my apprenticeship instructor. And he gives me feedback and how I can improve on certain bits I'm doing. The modules are well written and easy to follow and understand. The quizes are great at the end as it shows whether I have learnt what was in the topic or not.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a lot of support. As there are many people within my work place also completing an apprenticeship like mine. Lots of people at my work know I'm doing the apprenticeship and so does my area manager and they will often ask me how I'm going with it and whether I need any extra help
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider gives me lots of support, we have regular meetings to check I'm on target, and completing the correct amount of work. They also set me extra tasks to make sure I'm done by the deadlines that need to be met. They will also give me extra tips on how to improve my work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think it helps me to perform better because I become more aware of the different and little things within my work place. So it helps me to want to get my qualification and then means I will change my attitude to work as I see it from a different perspective
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
My work doesn't have any extra curricular activities. We do have briefings and one to one meetings about projects coming up, and how we can improve with what we are doing within the store. We will often have change overs which is when store is closed so we are all more relaxed and have a laugh.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Iceland Frozen Foods to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend iceland to a friend because its a fun place to work. The job is nice and repetitive, the staff treated everyone equally. You can have a laugh, yes it gets very busy and hectic and can be stressful. But when it quietens down everyone relaxes and has a laugh at work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
I would say be yourself, don't try to be someone your not. Be honest, as it is knackering. Lots of heavy lifting, and if you can't do it tell someone. No one will judge because you can't lift one thing. So it's best to be honest
