Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role on a day to day basis included note taking on client calls, research for credit papers, learning how to use systems to check client information was up to date and generally assisting my team in any way they needed me to. My internship was virtual so also comprised of a lot of virtual teams meetings.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was busy non-stop throughout my internship- although I'm not sure if this was the case for all interns. I was also given lots of responsibilities, working on parts of very important projects with my team from very early on in my internship. This really made me feel like my contributions were worthwhile and that my team really valued my work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I learned so much on this internship, in particular technical knowledge of the sector I was in. Skills I learnt / developed on more generally included my ability to be concise in note taking, presentation skills, workplace etiquette on client calls, skills of using our systems, excel proficiency, relationship building and networking.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Just the right amount of support. This was a concern of mine before the internship but the emerging talent team reassured us that we would be clearly directed on work we should be doing and shouldn't have to outsource this ourselves. My line manager was supportive and gave me clear expectations. Everybody was also really understanding and helpful with any questions I ever had.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Inclusive, supportive, friendly and very much a team atmosphere. There were plenty of opportunities to speak to lots of different colleagues (this was great considering the internship was virtual). The atmosphere was not competitive but the people I were working with were all ambitious which was a great balance.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Really enjoyed it and I feel like I've learnt so much. I think doing an internship like this has set me up so well for any future work experiences I have. The only slight negative was the reduced interactions with other interns because of the virtual nature of the internship.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group
Go in with an open mind, stay organised and make sure to be realistic and clear when setting out expectations for people (ie say you've got a lot of work on if you are really busy). Make sure to speak to as many people as possible across lots of teams, you'll realise the breadth of personalities and people that work for Lloyds, which was really encouraging for me.
