Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
I am an electrical fitter so I work on lighting circuits testing operating lighting systems, fire alarms, installing lighting.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
Sometimes there is a lack of work and alot of it is not as electrical based as I require to learn.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Ship and marine knowledge, basic electrical knowledge

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I move sections every 3 months so that is good to get different experiences working on different jobs in different environments. Alot of the time the jobs are just watching or really basic jobs that you would need no electrical experience for. Some fitters you work with feel no obligation to explain things to you or let you do any work just watch
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive support from my apprentice manager alot and that is always really good but as for putting me in places I can actually learn no.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
A little bit of support is received in terms of giving you time to complete coursework but no support in terms of giving you jobs where you can fill out your requirements of the coursework.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I don't feel I have learnt a sufficient amount yet to work alone on jobs and know what I am doing
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are no social activities but there are Christmas work parties in most placements

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because the pay is better than most other apprenticeships, you get a qualification at the end and the first year you get paid for just going to college.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
Try to be punctual, hardworking and do the nvq coursework consistently from the start so it won't pile up on you.
