Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in Facilities so we do the post incoming and outgoing, scanning, deal with issues in the office, maintenance. I book and prepare meeting rooms, book travel and accommodations. Archive post and documents with an external storage company. Deal with complaints such as temperature in the office or running out of stationary - which I order.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I think this is a great program. For me personally, the position I have and the work I have to do for the apprenticeship is very easy for me to understand and complete. I was surprised to find studying and working very manageable in the week. The effects of covid make it so i

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have definitely developed existing skills whether it be IT skills like excel and word. Or other skills like developing my time management skills and decision making and problem solving.
New skills would be learning to use the existing systems. Personally I've become a lot more flexible because of this job.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the apprenticeship is very organised every week we have new tasks to do. The work itself is mostly repetitive which is what makes it easy. We have regular meetings in both the apprenticeship and work meaning. The training was very thorough at the beginning, now its a training course every now and then which is nice.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have a good relationship with my manager, I am comfortable going to him to ask for help or with any issue. Everyone has been very supportive from the HR to co-workers from other teams. If I have an issue I have multiple different resources I can go to for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

If I have a question I can always contact my coach and there are forums I can use to connect with other apprentices from across the county. I have a meeting every 6 weeks to go other my work and receive a new module. Other than that its very self learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It depends on the module I am working on some have really related and others haven't so much. I speak to manager whenever I cant relate my learning to my work to maybe introduce me some thing new that will relate. If that also cant happen I have to leave it until an opportunity arises.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are however because of covid they have been limited to online meetings mostly. I know as a company they're allowing more things to happen face to face so hopefully things will pick up soon. The online meetings there are many of them that cover a variety of different things.

Why?
I think the company itself is very caring. No job is perfect there will always be days where you're not enjoying the tasks. But this is one of the best companies I've ever worked for and I think you can gain a lot from working here professionally and personally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
The application process is long so be prepared. The interview wasn't stressful like you'd imagine it to be, they are really nice and understanding - they just want to get to know you. The initial training is going to take days to complete - there's so much. Once you've started and are getting the hang of things, branch out and see of you can ask for more opportunities.
