Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role consists of looking after various cost centres within a certain company within Babcock. I have various different tasks to do linking this. I look at the headcount (i.e the number of staff working in each cost centre) as well as posting monthly journals relating to salaries and projects. Another aspect of my role is to roll over files on a monthly basis and produce timetables for future reference.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Initially the idea of finance in general was dauting and seemed tedious however after settling into Babcock I began to really enjoy it. My role (and previous role) means that my head isn't just buried in spreadsheets and I really enjoying logging onto work. The studying aspect is great and the training provider ensures all work is done to the best standard

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
A mix of both. Babcock provided me with lots of internal training courses which have allowed me to develop my skills. Notable ones being: Communication, Time management and Team working skills. As well as this my role means that organisational skills have to be constantly developed since keeping on top of my work is pivotal.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I couldn't ask for a better formatted programme in my honest opinion. I am allowed to have a study day every Friday to ensure all my studies are kept up to date. Akin to this I have frequent reviews with career advisors and my mentor to allow me to stay on track. The support is amazing and I am never lost for work or a path forwards
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As previously mentioned the support received is the best I could ask for. I have a mentor who has recently finished her apprenticeship meaning she can really relate to all my queries. She is really hands on and ensures that I am completely comfortable at work. I speak to lots of people on a daily basis and I have never met anyone not willing to help me out. The culture is so friendly and I always feel that I can get the support needed when I need it. Currently my manager is doing a great job at transitioning me into the role - offering support where needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support received from my training provider is equally great. They have drop in sessions set up every single day of the week at 12 in case any apprentices need any support in their studies. They are always quick to response to queries and ensure I am adequately prepared for any exams that I am about to take. On top of this the scheme is really simple and easy to follow allowing me to come out with a distinction in the first year.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Initially there wasn't much crossover between my studies and work. However in my second year I have noticed a lot of year 1 topics coming back up to support me. Notably, when posting journals, bookkeeping skills are focal and really helps me figure things out for myself. I am moving into more of a management accounting role which is coming up in my studies soon so I look forward to that
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in and I have done! As part of my role I get to deliver a presentation every Monday to 30+ people about various topics and one of them includes company notices. Often I share news about exciting opportunities for people to get involved in relating to the month we are in. Examples include for mental health day and Movember

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would, and have, recommend Babcock to a friend because of the following reasons. They are a great employer first and foremost. The support available is unrivalled and there has never been a point in my programme where I have felt like I can't get the support I need. The application process was very linear and approachable but had the right difficulty to feel like I was applying for something worth having. There is lots of room to progress at Babcock so people with high aspirations, like myself, feel empowered to do well. The general culture is amazing - so friendly and very social which is really appealing to me. Finally Job security is a massive thing for new apprentices looking far into the future and I feel I have that here at Babcock.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
My best advice is to be yourself! There is no point in pretending you're someone you're not. Research the company, thoroughly, to ensure you know exactly what Babcock do and why they do it. One part of my role is ensure I also understand issues beyond my own remit so having that skill will be very attractive to your application. Finally - Smile!
