Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes talking to clients, managing client money, paying invoices, get quotes for car/home insurance, opening/closing investment accounts for clients. create the information for meetings/ write the meeting note. I also do a lot of training and complete individual client tasks for each clients personal interests eg buying houses
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I think there is a mixture of feelings. As I started this job from college which was hugely disrupted by Covid there are days I struggle but as a whole I extremely enjoy this job. Every day is different including different tasks, learning and people so I am never bored.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Every skill that i have previously mentioned is something I had no idea how to do before. There is constant room to improve/ learn from colleagues to training sessions on things such as investment training, court application training, wills training etc and then we also have chance to ask colleagues anything. I speak to the person who gives me my work at least once a week in depth about tasks I have been given.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My program is extremely structured. I always have a webinar on a Monday at 11 for my apprenticeship. I then have all of Tuesdays to keep up to date on my on my apprenticeship work and I have a 1-2-1 with my manager every month and one with my apprenticeship coach every 6 weeks.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I require. I am asked at least once a week if I am okay or need any help and everyone in my team was really welcoming so I do not feel like i cant ask anyone if i dont understand something. I also think everyone knows that somethings are hard to grasp so they go into more detail
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider is good. I havent had any problems as they are fairly easy going and I am confident enough to have a quick email or ask on my coaching sessions if i am stuck or have a problem. Could be some improved support about gathering evidence as its so different for every apprentice due to different departments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It allows me to identify my learning and keep track of what I learnt and when. It also helps with commuication to clients as theres things we learn via online courses and the books which can help us provide a better service to our clients even though we dont have much experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Theres so many groups that you can join. For example there is a group to join where you can participate in charity work or theres LGBTQ+ groups which may help some people. They also have photography groups etc. The departments also get a budget to go out and enjoy themselves away from the office to really bond.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Irwin Mitchell to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think its a very inviting place. The people are very welcoming despite working from home as you dont get that usual interaction like you would in an office enviroment. Also, the work is okay. It could just be that theres short deadlines or a matter of urgency so you can try plan your day but it never really works out like that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
The application process is quite long as theres around 3 stages however only 1 is an interview type and the rest are answering questions etc. Its not as scary as it seems you just have to be yourself. I would also tell people there is a long wait time to find out if you have gotten the job.
