Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a support worker in mental health in supported living, I administer medication and support clients with cooking, cleaning, going out in the community and going to appointments. I also manage challenging behaviour and help clients to cope with everyday life, I support them to do weekly shopping and activities
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the course because it will give me a qualification which will help me to find other jobs in the future and expand my knowledge in the health and social care sector and enable me to have more opportunities to work in the field and expand my knowledge in the field

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed more skills and gained a greater understanding of legislation within the health care sector, and learnt more about British values, and person centred care, and working in partnership with various agencies such as local government and professionals such as mental health teams and other professionals such as doctors

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well organised and structured and my assessor is very good at her job, her name is [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], we have regular zoom meetings and she is able to fit me in with my very busy work schedule which I find very useful and the she is always punctual to the meeting
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has been very encouraging for me to do course, I work for a large company that has projects around England which are supporting people who have mental health issues and learning disabilities, they do a lot of regular training of their own such as elearning and face to face training
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My assessor is very good and well experienced and she is easy to work with, she is able to work around my busy work schedule and has a pleasant friendly manner, she is very encouraging of me, she is professional and supportive and punctual and always attends zoom meeting on time
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps me to further my skills which will enable me to progress more within the health and social care sector and to be able to take on more senior positions in the future if I choose to do so later on down the track and expand my knowledge in the field
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No there is not in my current position, the company I work for don't have any other activities outside of work, I work 12 hour shifts, days and nights. There is a staff team of 20 but we don't have any sports teams or anything like that in our workplace.

Would you recommend United Response to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company has a lot of projects around England so it is easy to transfer if you want to, the project I work at is OK and I've made some friends, the company has recently given a pay rise, they do a lot of training with elearning and face to face.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to United Response?
That they will do lots of training, to always ask questions if they are unsure about things and to double check they know what to do. To take the time to build professional relationships with the clients and get to know them well and read support plans and their files
