Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
My work experience involved working in the centre of excellence at Pwc Manchester. I worked closely with people in and out the office. My work involved me regularly having to work hard to meet deadlines and to provide and receive support to get work finished on a timely basis. The work allowed me to develop a good technical understanding as I worked closely with tax.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
Whilst the work was tricky at times, I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. The nature of the coe is that it is a very close team and at all times I felt I could talk to anyone in the office, regardless of whether they were tax. The support you receive is amazing and the people you meet make the job that much easier.
How well organised was your work experience?
3/5
My work experience was organised well. At first my work was a bit hit and miss, due to clients on numerous occasions pushing back work, meaning I was picking up bits and bobs from other jobs. However, the coe always managed to find me something to do, so for how they dealt with the situation of clients pushing work back, I would say they were quite organised.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
My work experience has shown me that I am very capable at performing the work in the coe to a good standard. It showed that I can work alongside other people and can be dependable on large pieces of work. So the placement has highlighted that I would be a great asset to pwc.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
I received payment for my work at pwc. I received a salary monthly, the details of which were previously recorded. My placement did not involve me having to travel anywhere but the office so there was no need for reimbursement. However, I am aware of how to receive reimbursement if needed.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I developed a lot of technical knowledge over tax, as I spent the placement being responsible for completing tax work on my own. This placement really saw me take initiative and skills such as time management, communication and even coaching/leadership came into play, as I worked and helped my team through issues that arose.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
As a company as a whole I am not sure. My understanding of the culture is limited to the coe. From speaking to my friends, the experience seems to be much different to people in main core. I loved my time in the coe and do not want to leave. They set such a good standard of work to be performed and managed to always be professional, whilst also being nice people.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
The coe provided many occasions to socialise with the other workers. The team were very intertwined and we regualrly went out to get lunch, eat lunch together and talk about our interests other than audit. The social committee repeatedly tried to organise social events and be interactive with the team members.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
PWC is a great career path for anyone who is willing to work hard and anyone who is willing to play a part on a big team. PWC offers so much in return for hard working people. There is so many great people to meet and the benefits of your knowledge growing is amazing.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
To make sure you know what you're talking about. Pwc requires people to be on the ball and people who are quick to things. The job is about learning so people who are happy and able to learn are desirable. Also, people who work hard are always a good way of applying.
