Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves managing the induction programmes for General Managers, Head Chefs and Assistant Managers, whilst also creating and developing a career path for team members in our pubs who are looking to progress within the hospitality sector. I manage trainers who deliver these programmes, ensuring that no matter where you are in your career you have support personnel.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying the programme, with a hybrid of classroom based skills workshops and online webinars, it really suits my learning style. We have a group set up as a cohort and it is particularly interesting learning about others challenges/successes and where industries overlap. The content is insightful and all very relevant to my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Being only just over 2 months into my apprenticeship I am pleasantly surprised at how much I have learnt and developed. Most importantly reflected practise is a skill that I gave certainly developed, and using a journal to support this is really powerful in demonstrating personal progression and areas of opportunity.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured for the most part with webinars and skills workshops. I like having the mylife portal which has lots of support tools and information to support your learning. I do think some of the deadlines are quite short especially for my industry at this time of year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer gives me full autonomy of my own diary and time management which means I can get the work done and attend the learning sessions. I have no doubt if I was to ask for more support I would get it, however so far this has not been needed
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Unfortunately our coach has been off sick unexpectedly so we are currently under another coach (who has their own cohort) this has meant perhaps a little less support thus far however she did provide assignment feedback and has set up a 121 which I feel will be beneficial to me
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The modules all link very clearly with aspects of my role and I think they will help me see other angles to tackle issues as well as bigger picture thinking. The first couple of modules are where I feel the most comfortable so I’m looking forward to pushing through that barrier as the programme progresses
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Due to the covid pandemic there have not been many social or extra curricular activities happening, however hopefully as the pandemic winds down, these will start to increase. I try to attend as many networking opportunities whether they be regional meetings or development days to get to know our teams better
